LDT550: Design Studio Website

The Design Studio course at Penn State challenges one to tap into a wide variety of skills in order to create interactive learning materials. Over the duration of two semesters, I decided to document my journey by creating a website of my own design so I could share my creations online. Utilizing a blog format provides a flexible platform to connect each project and aids in showcasing proficiency in areas such as web development, databases, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

Exploring the various ways that one can leverage the WordPress publishing platform is something that I have always enjoyed, and being able to incorporate this pursuit into my studies at Penn State was a valuable experience. Once the site was up and running, I began considering how others interacted with the overall design and how the content was received, challenging me to break free of learned patterns in web design that I have developed over time.

With more and more people accessing online resources via mobile devices, I was encouraged to create a fully responsive design that could be viewed on screens of all sizes and resolutions. Sharing the steps taken to complete each module from idea to completion was an enjoyable exercise that will invariably encourage me to continue the practice of documenting my journey in learning and in life. Additionally, when sharing creations in an open forum one must consider the strengths and limitations of the target audience to ensure that the overall message does not become lost in translation.
